# Bird Streets Villa Rentals: Three Houses on the Most Expensive Ridge in LA

## What the Bird Streets actually are

A handful of narrow roads above the Sunset Strip, named for birds — Thrasher, Thrush, Oriole, Robin, Nightingale, Doheny, Cordell. Perhaps two hundred houses in total. It is the single most expensive residential air in Los Angeles, and there is one reason.

The view. Not a partial view, not a view through a gap between two other houses. An uninterrupted sweep from downtown across the entire basin to the ocean, with the grid laid out below like a circuit board. On a clear evening you can see Catalina.

Houses here are built for it — glass walls, cantilevered decks, pools that appear to end in mid-air. The architecture exists to serve the view and everything else is secondary.

## Our three Bird Streets houses

### [Thrasher Aerie](https://www.alorareserve.com/houses/thrasher-aerie) — sleeps 10

Five king suites, **nine bathrooms**, in the heart of the Bird Streets. Nine bathrooms against five bedrooms is close to two per room, which at ten people removes every morning bottleneck — the highest bathroom ratio of any five-bedroom house we hold. Retractable glass walls open the great room onto the terrace, and there is a private theatre, a gym, a glass-enclosed wine cellar, a designer bar and an elevator.

### [Thrush Eyrie](https://www.alorareserve.com/houses/thrush-eyrie) — sleeps 10

Five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, with a **private tennis court**.

A tennis court in the Bird Streets is close to unheard of. These are hillside lots carved out of a ridge — flat ground large enough for a court essentially does not exist up here. If you want to play tennis with this view, this is more or less the only option in Los Angeles. It also carries a basketball court, a sauna, a cold plunge, a cigar lounge, a private theatre, a rooftop entertainment deck and an elevator connecting every level — plus a garage for eight cars and four gated spaces, which is the real outlier on a street this narrow.

Four bedrooms — two kings and two queens — across four and a half bathrooms, with a private pool and free driveway parking on the premises. The smallest of the three and the easiest to book at shorter notice: the right choice for eight people who want the view without estate scale or an estate rate.

## What nobody tells you about the Bird Streets

**The roads are genuinely narrow.** Two cars passing up here requires cooperation. A moving truck or a large SUV will struggle. Tell us what you are arriving in.

**Parking is the real limit.** Most houses up here have three or four spaces — Thrush Eyrie is the exception, not the rule. Ten adults typically arrive in five cars. Street parking is minimal and permit-restricted, and the neighbours notice. Raise it before you book.

**Pools are for the view, not for swimming.** Infinity edges are designed to visually merge with the horizon. They photograph extraordinarily well and they are not for lengths. If your group wants to swim properly, look at [the Valley](https://www.alorareserve.com/houses#valley).

**The drive is fifteen minutes each way, every time.** The Strip looks close enough to touch and it is a winding fifteen minutes down and up. If you are out every night, consider [Sunset Plaza](https://www.alorareserve.com/search?area=Sunset%20Strip) — same hillside, half the drive.

**Noise enforcement is strict.** The Bird Streets have a long history with party houses and the city responded firmly. Anything beyond the people sleeping in the house needs prior arrangement. No exceptions, and the neighbours will call.

**Marine layer.** May and June mornings can sit in cloud. September and October are the clearest months and the best time to be up here.

## Who the Bird Streets suit

Guests for whom the view is the entire reason for the trip. Photo shoots and production — these houses shoot beautifully, though production is a separate written agreement in every case and the narrow streets rule out a large unit. Smaller groups of eight to ten who want an address that needs no explanation. Anyone who has done Beverly Hills and wants something that feels different.

They suit families with young children poorly — steep drops, glass railings, narrow roads, pools not built for playing in.

## What it costs

Rates are quoted on request. The Bird Streets carry the highest premium per bedroom of anywhere on our register, alongside Bel Air. You are paying for the view and the address; a comparable five-bedroom in Encino is a fraction of it.

Whether that is worth it depends on what you are here for. If you will spend every evening on that deck watching the city light up, it is worth it. If you are out until two every night, it is not, and we will say so.
